A weather station in high school No 1
As part of the project ERASMUS+ „Take Action for the Earth” a professional weather station „Davis” has been purchased and activated in Goszczyński High School in Nowy Targ. Not only does it measure air temperature, humidity, wind speed and direction, pressure and rainfall but it is also equipped with solar radiation sensors.
Thanks to it, it will be possible to introduce a pedagogical innovation in the field of meteorology for students who major in geography. As it is known, climate has been undergoing significant fluctuations over millions of years and at present the observed climate changes have various direction and intensity. These changes are considered based on the course of average monthly temperature values.
Thanks to the installed device we will be able to observe the trend of air temperature in Nowy Targ and compare it with the global changes. What is more, it will allow us to distinguish our local climate, lead and document its changes over many years and see the connection between it and the urbanization proces.
The weather station itself will be a valuable teaching aid as students, apart from observing the weather, will have an opportunity to deepen their knowledge and link interactions between geospheres. Finally, they will be able to draw conclusions on the basis of the data from the nearest area which increases chances of them getting interested and involved in the processes occuring in the atmosphere.
Additionally, thanks to the air quality measurement station it wil be possible to show the relationship with emissivity of greenhouse gases during winter which will increase students’ ecological awareness. The project connected with the station will be supervised by Mr Piotr Smosna, a geography teacher. Current measurement data can already be viewed on the school website under weather conditions.
